This great–looking watch was the perfect 30th birthday present from my girlfriend. The Hamilton brand offers high quality yet affordable Swiss-made automatic watches, as well as some distinctive designs that really set them apart from the competition. This watch was also worn by Matthew McConaughey’s character in the Oscar-winning sci-fi film Interstellar, which gives it added collectability.
The large black dial takes inspiration from vintage pilot watches, and the applied numerals are particularly striking as they are textured to catch the light from certain angles. The lume on the hands and minute marks is also noticeably brighter and longer lasting compared to other watches in my collection. The date positioned at 6 o’clock and day at 12 o’clock give a pleasing symmetry to the dial, and it’s nice to have the day written out in full. The slightly domed sapphire glass is a nod to classic watch designs and gives great durability, but does make the dial a little less clear when viewed at a steep angle.
The Swiss ETA movement is visible through the sapphire case back, which is always a nice feature in a mechanical watch. The brushed steel bracelet looks and feels beautifully engineered, with the polished bezel and shoulders providing a nice contrasting touch the watch also looks great with a NATO strap for a different style - see my picture. Overall this watch feels very well constructed and built to last – it’s water resistant to 10 bar, which means it’s fine for swimming, and if you believe what you see in Interstellar, it can even survive a trip through an intergalactic wormhole.

Id being wanting to treat myself to a nice watch for a while but never found what i was looking for until seeing my new favourite movie interstellar that is!
Its the first automatic watch ive owned i like its simple and classic design and that the rear caseing is also glass so you can see all the gears inside working their magic.
When it arrived it was a little too big but i took it to my local goldsmiths store leeds white rose centre who took a couple of links out free of charge they even made me a coffee while i waited.
Altogether a great service from the watchshop & goldsmiths. Im looking to buy my wife a watch for her birthday so i will be a returning customer and recomend them to anybody looking for the time. Cheers.
